BLUE MOON RANCH

Project: 3,500 SF single family residence

Location: Missouri Heights, Colorado

Owner: withheld at owner's request

Cost: $200/SF

Structural Engineer: KL&A of Colorado

Contractor: Burkholder Construction Construction: Slab-on-grade, conventional framing.

Project Description: The harmonic progression of site platforms is reiterated in a similar progression of diminishing roof pitches, (3/12, 2/12, 1/12 and .5/12), as the 'boxes' descend into the meadow. These architectural relationships are analogous to certain acoustic phenomenon, i.e. the Doppler Effect, and resonated with the project's location, conception and execution. Minimal site excavation, low impact construction techniques and passive solar orientation, reinforce and respect the inherent qualities of the site. Final landscaping is restricted to native grasses, sage meadow, scrub oak, and pinions -- all currently existing on site.
