Project Description: A logical consequence of the influence of the computer on the workplace is that large centralized facilities are no longer necessary to integrate an office. This program establishes a remotely located stepchild of a large Silicon Valley based computer corporation. The facility, developed by the corporation's founder and chief technical officer, maintains its connection to its homebase and global constituents via telecommunication and other information sharing technologies.
Technology: The technical requirements of the program required particular attention to controlling artificial and natural light at the workstation. VDT glare -- monitor screen reflections -- are known to create eye strain and fatigue. Of equal importance is the need for flexible and accessible cabling consistent with a research environment. The resolution of both issues is handled simultaneously in the treatment of the ceiling section, (see drawing above).
